Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Launch!- Feb 09

The Nokia 5800 finally launches, and its Comes With Music from the Nokia Music Store. Check out the launch party with All American Rejects and a whole bunch of our local media journos.

There were of course the muttons who did the brief intro with All-American Rejects…

And everyone came in Stripes, yours truly excluded.

When you don the stripes, the price drops down to a minimal. Only if you’re lucky though.

And here’s the side profile of this Xpressmusic mobile.

Front shot! Of course, the area was uber dark when we proceeded to taking photos.

Held at Velvet Underground, the surroundings was nothing short of being packed to the brim.

An enjoyable night nonetheless. Enough said.

First-Takes: Audio-Technica ART ATH-700

We took pictures of this rather humongous ear muffs, that made us drool over its audio-quality.

Packed in a fully-informed, noted by its manual inscribed on the innates of its packaging,

we were nonetheless impressed.

Sitex Galore – Gadgets FTW!

And we were at Sitex for a spin-and-look, where we have to say, gadgets weren’t the only thing on the horizon.

From household brands, to novel device-churners, we have to say, we love it all except the crowd.

Although crowds are a welcoming sight, especially with 2009 being a belt-tightening year. Still, money-well spent and quality goods do go hand in hand.

T3 Gadgets- Archos 5 internet Tablet Review (T3 Nov)

Archos 5 Internet Tablet

60GB-$639/ 120GB- $699, www.memoryworld.com.sg

Archos has finally taken the lid off its yet another do-it-all media churner that perhaps makes one coffee whilst we surf and browse through our catalogues of videos and music files.

T3: 5 stars

Love: Its massive 120GB memory, gorgeous chrome design

Hate: Having to register first before you get to enter…

We say: Not a bad purchase if you’re a video hoarder like us, although its many ‘optional’ buys like widgets and applications should be added within its price.

Type: Portable Media Player (PMP)

Tech Talk: The Rectification of Reality – the Era of Smart Cameras

As technology advances, it seems almost ludicrously funny when cameras spill out the ‘latest-tech’ that comprises of everything-and-anything, read my lips, anything can be touched-up.

Think about this, there’s portrait enhancer modes within the F-series (F50fd and F100fd only), which basically states in simple words, ‘reduces blemishes’ and makes you look presentable…without touching up the photos physically…In fact, its a great alternative if you can barely afford the highly priced adobe CS3, or the to-be-released CS4 which we know nothing of…of course. No need for botox or anti-aging cream…all you need is a snap-happy festive mood, and you’re set to go for candid shot hunting.

(taken with the F100fd – Portrait Enhancer)

Still even though reality can’t lie, the camera can tweak what reality can’t. Make you look; better, by just that little bit…whether its more of an ego-booster or just a point where it brings you your average stalker…

We noted that there’s even cameras that have what we call a ‘Happy Face Retouch’ mode within the chassis of Sony’s Cyber-shot DSC-W150 camera which seems necessary…only if you’re a new age emo kid who only scrowls at the words ‘cheese’ and ‘smile’. Happiness doesn’t come in folds, but if a camera can do it on your behalf, why the heck not? In fact, all it really does, is physically alter your features, by simply twisting the ends of your face upwards in a sweet, blurring motion. Not a bad piece of technology to own…

(totally unglam…after gym -_-, but you get my drift)

In fact, in comes upgrades that renew themselves at an amazing speed, that has seen a few incarnations of Face Detection, that now at its 3rd stage, not only detects 10 pax, it also helps identify people who are camera shy and not willing to go full-frontier for the camera. From the likes of Kodak, Nikon, Pentax; you wouldn’t have expected less then automatic gun-speed shutter shots, where the days of having to manually toggle through settings for ISO clarity…is but a secondary thought. From blink, smile and face detection; we’ve got image stabilizing that allows even a highly unstable individual shoot a decent picture. In fact, sharpness of focus, when snapping up close with a blurred out background can come across as artsy. Did we mention the smile-shutter, where the camera snaps when it detects that much sighting of toothy goodness?

Maybe bending truths aren’t half as bad as putting up a picture of your favourite celebrity and trying to pass it for your very own. Note that the cameras can’t lie, but humans can.

T3 iLike: The iPhone’s Official Asean Tour

And as it would have been, where holding our breath and wishing for one didn’t seem to have done any wonders…Apple has finally decided to flood our shores, after many months’ of anticipation.

SingTel and its partners have tied in with Apple to carry their iPhone (finally!); distributed throughout India, Philippines, Australia and Singapore. SingTel as a whole holds over 30% of share within India’s Bharti Airtel, Philippines’ Globe, as well as 100% stake within Australia’s Optus.

The Apple iPhone comes with a touch-sensitive screen, and carries onboard an internal capacity of between 8-16GB, as well as a 2MP camera.

It seems more than a high possibility that this much-awaited mobile might give the leading mobile-brand Nokia, a run-for its money…although, with the number of hacked-iPhones floating around our friendly shores; only a reasonable price point coupled with a well-warranted service center would do the job in enticing more Apple lovers to pick up the iPhone. So head out and buy it at a store, Near you…

For the Pro-animator…Have you dreamt of realizing your sketches?

Maybe it’s kind of an enthusiasm, even for someone who can’t draw very well…it seems that maybe this could help my drawing skills! Or can it…

Tech Radar: N800’s OS2008 (2nd take)

I’ve got my N800 re-flashed with the new OS2008 linux maemo version…and although its UI larger and much more accessible…there’s just this naggy voice that says, Tweak it…Tweak it.

Its UI when opened, gives a larger and ‘better-on-the-eyes’ feel…yet it lacks a certain consistency.

For instance, programs you don’t ever use for instance the original File Manager, calculator, rss reader (there’s always a better version to download via your application program) and it makes a bit of a clutter.

What I did was to open a ‘rubbish-only’ folder and basically chuck all the unused programs within. Still, minus this little flaw that’s taxing on your sight and time, there’s really very little you would hate about this new OS2008. In fact, gone are the days of the sluggish 2007 version, where the mozilla-based internet is fast and speedy, making surfing a much enjoyable experience.

Pretty sleek if you ask me, where with the tweaking of its current programs (polishing and ridding the bus), this 2nd gen Nokia tablet might be able to shine like the star it was meant to be. Did we mention you could make your tablet look like your iTouch or even play Palm OS games?

You might have read tons of rumors about it being comparable to the iTouch, which seems more than a real possibility. You can expand its memory if you get 4GB SD cards as there are dual slots within this N800, hence leveraging this tablet to a large 8GB multimedia churner.

What was apparent was that its calendar, to-do and summary add-on application (3rd party software) made a great difference especially if you need more than a mere paper-based diary. Write and keep track, set alarms and travel the world. This tablet does wonders in that sense.

For now. It’s more of a trial and error thing, but as far as I can see…UI ( I prefer the 2007 version), usability and the widening of possibilities (software-wise) makes this tablet a plus-plus.

Of course, the N810 with its numeric pad would be great, but with the USB host add-on, and a female-to-female USB plug, you’ve got everything you could possibly plug-in; from keyboards (if you don’t already own a bluetooth one…like myself), thumb-drives for document churning whilst on the go! As long…as these peripherals need not draw power from your tablet, it would be a go-go-Gone deal!
